Helpful Daily Activities for Dementia Patients: 50 Expert Tips and Suggestions to Keep Your Loved One Engaged

10 Stimulating Activities for Alzheimer’s

If you're looking for some fun and engaging games and activities to do with your loved ones who have Alzheimer’s or Dementia, check these articles out. Whether you are a caregiver looking for things to do with your client or a grandchild looking to develop a bond with your grandparents, it can often be hard to find activities for someone that has Dementia or Alzheimer’s. These articles provide numerous ideas for activities to try.

At Changing Seasons Home Care, our aides are trained to use these strategies with clients. Our aides seek to develop a personal relationship with your loved one and what better way to do so than through fun activities. We promote the use of activities because they serve as a healthy distraction when clients need a little redirection. It keeps their mind moving and it can also help physically.

Our personal favorites include:

  • Doing puzzles-it may be necessary to use a child-size puzzle with large pieces for the client to be successful
  • Completing crosswords-again, think simple and easy so it will be a positive and not frustrating experience
  • Listening to music-remember to choose songs from the client’s era as long term memory is more likely to be intact
  • Cooking or baking
  • Going for a walk
  • Reminiscing by looking at family videos and photos

It’s important to remember that the activities should be geared toward your loved one’s interests and capabilities. We want to make them feel accomplished instead of getting upset. All of these activities can be done with grandkids and with the whole family! If your having trouble connecting with your family member with Alzheimer’s or Dementia please check these websites out. Sometimes the best gift you can give your loved one is spending time with them.
