Changing Seasons Home Care received our New York State Licensed Home Care Service Agency (LHCSA) license in 2016. Home care agencies in New York State must be licensed by the Health Department to legally provide hands-on home care. This means any assistance with bathing, toileting, feeding, transferring, or assisting with ambulation requires a licensed agency.
There are several companion agencies that can provide sitter services for people, but their caregivers are unable to do any hands-on care legally. All caregivers in a licensed agency are certified Home Health Aides (HHAs) or Personal Care Aides (PCAs). These aides have been trained to be caring for clients and are required to participate in continuing education to maintain their certifications.
Also, it is required by the New York State Health Department that all aides be fingerprinted to verify they are legally cleared to work with people that may not be able to advocate for themselves.
